Your first assignment of the year is to pick a novel (fiction is a requirement). When I pick a novel, it is usually for a few of the following reasons:
1. Someone has recommended it
2. It fits my interests
3. I have read another work by the author
4. A new movie comes out based on a book
5. It has been deemed a classic of literature, therefore demands attention.
The first discussion on this forum is to discuss the last book you read on your own-not a forced march imposed on you by the forces of the English department. Who wrote it and when was it written? Why did you pick the book? What was the main plot?-Do not Rotten Tomato us! Would you recommend it and to whom would you recommend this book? Finally, what type of novel are you interested in reading? Your assignment is to answer these questions in two, well-written paragraphs and respond to one of your classmate's responses in one paragraph. Your responses may include book suggestions for your classmates or a request for more information about their book.
